Lessons in Mommyhood #06

At some point during your child's life, usually between 18 and 24 months - DINNER TIME WILL SUCK. Accept it as it is, move on, dodge the food before it hits you in the face, and laugh. Remember why you became a mom and what a joyful experience it has been so far. And if you get the sudden impulse to just smack your husband in the face or hit him over the head with a large object during dinner, because nothing he says or does actually alleviates the situation, but only makes it worse.....resist the temptation. Save the energy for something else later..wink..wink....that might only result in another mess maker though.

i know how frustrating it can be. my kids feed off on another. if one child starts to throw his cheerio's on the floor, the other will usually join in on the fun. i think by 20-22 months most of the mess stopped.
i knew that they understood right from wrong, so i made it their responsibility to clean up the mess. i didn't yell, just picked them up out of the chair, and asked them to clean it, if there was refusal, they had to sit in the corner. if they refused again after a time out and mommy asking nicely, i would have to "help" them. "helping" is mommy holding their hands and physically helping them pick up the food and throwing it out. they don't like that at all. we did this multiple times during a meal, and it gets exhausting. now, we might do it once a week.
i think both sat in the corner during lunch today for not using good manners. vaughn decided to pour his glass of water on the table and avery was screaming.
